Time To Move? 3 Tricks To Alleviate The Stress

Blog

It's finally time to move. Even if you're just moving across town, you're going to need a plan. The last thing you want is to wake up on moving day and realize that you're not ready. If that happens, you're going to be faced with mounting stress and additional work. Don't let moving day catch you by surprise. Here are three simple steps that will help take the stress out of your next move.

Start Collecting Boxes Early

Don't wait until the last minute to start gathering your packing boxes. That could leave you running around town, frantically looking for boxes at the last minute. As soon as you have a date for your move, start collecting boxes. First, ask your friends and family members to start saving boxes for you. Second, contact managers at local stores and arrange to pick up their boxes before they're tossed in the trash – or worse, sent through the compactor. Finally, start making daily trips to the trash bins behind all the local stores. By the time you're ready to start packing, you'll have an ample supply of boxes.

Arrange for Help

You might be moving nearby, but that doesn't mean you're not going to need help. Alleviate stress by arranging to have people come in to help. You might be able to take care of the packing by yourself, but there are still other ways that additional hands can benefit you during a move.

Errands

There's nothing worse than having to stop packing when you need to run an errand – for things like additional packing supplies or food. Having people nearby to help will allow you to send them while you continue packing.

Cleaning

Once you're packed, every room in your home will need to be cleaned before you move out. If you've got helpers on hand, they can clean the rooms as you pack things up. By the time you're packed, your home will be clean and ready to move out of.

Childcare

If you've got children, you're going to need help, especially if you've got toddlers. Additional helpers can take care of your children while you take care of the packing. This is also helpful if you have older children who will need to be picked up from school.

Go Room by Room

When it comes to packing, having a plan is the best way to go. Instead of moving throughout the house, packing miscellaneous items, go room by room. Once you have a room packed, close the door and move on to the next one. Not only will this allow you to keep track of the process, but it will also allow each room to get cleaned once it's emptied.

Now that it's time to move, make sure you're ready for the adventure. The tips provided here will help you eliminate the stress. For more helpful tips, be sure to speak to a moving company near you.
